Hay

We grow approximately 60 acres of alfalfa, 30 acres of bromegrass/timothy hay, and about 40 ac of orchard/alfalfa hay.  We small square some of our alfalfa, grass, and grass mix hay. Our small square hay is premium quality that meets the demands of our most discerning horse customers.  Our large round alfalfa hay is cut and baled 3 times a year and is generally baled at late bud to 1/3 bloom to ensure high quality and palatability.  Our hay is stored inside to maintain the highest quality throughout the year.  We're happy to take custom orders to meet your needs.  We also do custom hay services such as cutting, raking and or baling.  If you're looking for quality hay or hay services, please contact us at hay@mulberrygrovefamilyfarm.com or (515)344-4HAY or (712)338-9449. Pick-up or delivery available.

Pasture-Raised Chickens
Our meat chickens are the pasture hardy and flavorful Freedom Ranger.  The whole birds are large (average 6  lbs.) with the plump breasts you would expect from a store-bought chicken.  The difference with our birds is that they have been raised on pasture just like our hens without any antibiotics or hormones.  We have no need for medications because of their exceptionally clean living conditions--they are raised in predator proof pens which are moved twice daily to clean pasture. This production model produces a healthy bird that is plump, juicy, and delicious and is considerably higher in omega 3 fatty acids than the typical cage raised bird.  They also boast higher vitamin A and D levels and lower saturated fats.  Click here to order. 100% Natural Black Angus Beeves

Because of our very limited production of steers we have a very limited supply of beef and will have no beeves for sale in 2011.  We are hopeful that our steer production will be up for the 2012 season.  All of our beeves are born and raised on our pastures, and corn finished on our farm.  In season, they live on our rotationally grazed pasture.  Rotational grazing provides fresh grass throughout spring, summer and fall, and at the same time allows us to be good stewards of our natural resources. Our cattle actually help us maintain native prairie by grazing cool season grasses in the spring and allowing warm season native prairie grasses to thrive later in the season.  While we could rotate back to these warm season prairie grasses, we choose to leave them for wildlife nesting and cover habitat that lasts all summer, fall and winter. During the winter months our cattle are fed hay and other natural forages. To achieve the old fashioned beef flavor that our customers are accustomed to, our beeves are corn finished.  While the use of growth hormones and antibiotics results in faster weight gain, we believe that the extra time required to reach finished weight naturally is worth the wait and so we guarantee that our beef is 100% hormone and antibiotic free.  We think you'll appreciate the healthy and quality product that our beeves deliver.  Contact us for availability at beeves@mulberrygrovefamilyfarm.com or (515)344-4HAY or (712) 338-9449.
